The bummer about shooting a bride is that you can’t post the pictures right away. The groom is not allowed to see her in her wedding gown before the big day and you don’t want to spoil the surprise for the guests. So, now that the knot has been tied, here comes the bride.

We had a rainy day to contend with on the day we shot Lindsay’s bridal portraits, so we had to be creative with our choice of location. Shooting them at the church where they were to be married turned out to be a beautiful place for her portrait and it gave us a chance to see where the wedding day would take place. I must confess that I coveted Lindsay’s awesome hat/veil thingy and told Russell that I would be wearing one very similar at my next wedding. I was kidding about the next wedding part, of course….but seriously is that thing cute or what?!? Reminds me of Reese Witherspoon’s veil in Sweet Home Alabama. Anyway…. I hope you enjoy these images. Stay tuned for a sneak peak of Lindsay and Richard’s wedding pics later this week.

Seay-Lucas Wedding

Posted: April 25, 2011 in Uncategorized, Wedding

Well……it’s been quite a while since I last blogged so I thought I’d do some catching up. We have been in business for a year now and I still feel like I have so much to learn. There are so many facets to building a photography business and I am learning something new everyday. I wanted to take a moment to share some images from Michelle and Andrew’s wedding that we shot in November. We had so much fun that sometimes we forgot we were working. Looking at these pictures makes me happy because I know how perfect Andrew and Michelle are together. I hope you enjoy them as well.

A Couple of Hamms

Posted: December 20, 2010 in Uncategorized

Russell & I recently had the opportunity to photograph the birthday party of two precious brothers. They are the children of a high school classmate of mine, Kelly McCaskill Hamm. Kelly’s little guys are 13 months apart and were turning 1 and 2, so as one would imagine, her hands were just a little full.

The handsome little man on the left is 2 year old, Cade and the handsome little fella on the right is Luke, 1.

There were many images that we captured with friends and family that traveled in from miles away for this big celebration, but there were so many adorable pics of these two little guys that I decided to share as many of their sweet little faces as I could squeeze into this slideshow. We really enjoyed watching them enjoy all of the fun at My Gym in Lexington.

Kelly & Brandon, you have a beautiful family. Thanks for trusting us with such a special milestone in your boys’ lives. We hope you enjoy them on Christmas morning and soak up each and every precious memory.

Russell and I both agree that bridal sessions are among our favorite things to shoot.  There are few things more inspirational than a beautiful bride in her wedding gown. Michelle brought along her friend, Dana for this session and we had such a fun time. Michelle’s only request for her bridal portraits was a shot with her fiance’s brick at his childhood ballfield. She left the rest up to us and we really enjoyed putting together a session that we felt suited her personality. Our two children love Michelle and our daughter, Addi, 2, calls her Shell Bell.  As I was editing Michelle’s images, our son, Grant, 5 years old, wanted to know about the brick images. I explained to him that it had her future husband’s name on it — Andrew Lucas. Without even a second thought, he replied, ” Soon he’ll be Andrew Smooches!” I guess he is starting to understand this whole marriage thing. So, it is with great pleasure that I present to you Mrs. Shell Bell Smooches. Mr. & Mrs. Smooches tied the knot last Saturday and we cannot wait to share their wedding pics with you. We had a blast at their wedding and were so blessed to be a part of their big day! Please check back with us for their wedding blog in a few weeks.

Ava & Keeley

Posted: November 1, 2010 in Little Ones, Uncategorized

When we first started this business, I really did not think I would want to photograph little ones. Afterall, I really did not care for going to the portrait studio with my two kiddos and dancing around like a crazy person trying to make them smile. However, I must admit that I really enjoyed these two Little Ones sessions. Ava really got into having her own photo shoot and she was striking a pose before I could even get my lens cap off. As for Keeley, she was just so cuddly and cute I couldn’t get enough of her sweet little face. She slept through her entire shoot and struck her own little poses, even while snoozing. Both shoots were really enjoyable and I couldn’t stop smiling when I was editing them because they were both just so cute. These sweet girls definitely changed my mind about photographing little ones. I think these images will tell you why?

For those of you who know us, you may have wondered how we got started in this photography business venture. If so, you will find this post informative. Our sweet friend, Michelle had a lot to do with it. We had been friends for 5 or 6 years when she moved to our neck of the woods in Kershaw county. Since she lived so close, we began making time for a girls’ night out at San Jose’s every couple of weeks. Michelle and her friend, Dana were taking a class on event planning and were starting their own event planning business (you can find them on Facebook at Chic Planning & Design) and I was so excited about this new venture they were undertaking. Over the course of our next few evenings out, Michelle became engaged to Andrew (who is almost as sweet and fun as she is) and our dinner conversations, of course, would turn to the exciting details of their upcoming wedding. Russell and I had been discussing starting our own wedding photography business since we had met another husband/wife photography team at another friend’s wedding, so I asked Michelle to let us know when she had a client who had a small budget who wanted to give us  a chance. Well, needless to say, Michelle did not hesitate to take us up on that offer herself. We were overwhelmed at their faith in us to capture such a huge, important time in their lives and we were determined not to let them down. We had 7 months to prepare for their wedding and we didn’t waste anytime. We started A Thousand Words, LLC and started studying everything we could get our hands on. We took a DVD course on lighting and are now in the midst of an online photography course. We have purchased two new cameras (in addition to the one we started with) and have researched and purchased many new lenses. We shot Russell’s nephew’s wedding in July and have done several other 2 hour sessions along the way. We want to say thanks to Michelle and Andrew for having such faith in us to photograph their big day—just 20 days and counting!!!!! We could not have done this without your support and friendship.

When Andrew met Michelle, here was his pick up line….” I just had to talk to the girl with the big, blue purse.” And it worked! They will be married November 20th. Who knew a purse could bring two people together?!?

I also added a couple of sneak peaks from Michelle’s bridal portrait session last weekend. Can’t wait to share them with you. The braces are off and Michelle looked AMAZING!!!!

We were so excited when Crystal’s mom asked us to photograph Crystal’s bridal portraits. I had known her and her family since she was 6 years old and used to babysit her and her sister when they were young. I was so honored that they trusted us to capture her in her wedding gown. We had been dying to get our lenses on a bride and we couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful one to start with.

It was a hot day in July and Crystal’s mom was there to blot every drop of perspiration. And believe it or not, Crystal had many male admirers stop to share their well wishes. One guy even asked if he could have his picture taken with her. Needless to say, Crystal was very quick to turn him down. Afterall, I think it was pretty obvious that she was spoken for. Who knew that wearing a wedding gown around town would be  a good way to pick up men? So….to all you ladies looking for a man, throw on a white gown and walk around town. You are sure to attract some attention from the fellas……and if you get a proposal, you’ll already be dressed for the occasion.
